Office Hours Special: Maximizing Customer Value in 2026
Jan 29, 2026
Welcome to the latest Meat Success podcast episode. This episode is hosted by Katie Olthoff, co-founder of Chop Local and Chop Local University. Each month, Chop Local hosts office hours exclusively for Chop Local vendors—farmers and butcher shops—designed to share timely education and data-driven insights.
In this session, the team unpacked 2025 performance data, covering everything from average order size to strategies for increasing repeat customer rates. The discussion offered vendors a valuable opportunity to benchmark their businesses and begin planning strategically for 2026.
Key Insights from 2025
Average Order Value and Customer Lifetime Value
The data showed that the average order value on Chop Local was $130.42. More importantly, the average customer lifetime value reached $231, underscoring the critical role repeat customers play in long-term revenue. Vendors with higher repeat customer rates consistently saw stronger sales performance and higher lifetime values.
Repeat Customer and Order Rates
Repeat customers accounted for 32% of total customers, while repeat orders made up 46.6% of all transactions. This reveals a powerful trend: customers who return tend to order multiple times. Increasing repeat purchases creates more predictable revenue and a stronger business foundation.
Strategies for Boosting Customer Satisfaction and Repeat Orders
High-performing vendors focus on intentional customer experience strategies, including:
- Adding thoughtful touches such as handwritten notes or small gifts
- Communicating clearly and proactively about orders using tools like the Chop Local Message Center
- Following up after purchases to ensure satisfaction and strengthen relationships
- Timing outreach strategically, with the average repeat order occurring around 71 days after purchase—making the two-month mark an ideal follow-up window
Shipping vs. Pickup Orders
While roughly half of all orders are pickup, shipping orders consistently produce higher average order values and higher lifetime values. Expanding shipping capabilities can positively impact total revenue and order volume.
Top-performing vendors on Chop Local tend to share several traits:
- Consistent, well-rounded inventory
- Efficient fulfillment systems
- Strong repeat customer bases
- Effective use of email marketing and social media
Marketing Ideas for February and Beyond
Seasonal marketing opportunities are especially strong heading into February. Vendors are encouraged to leverage events like the Super Bowl and Valentine’s Day by promoting game-day favorites or premium cuts for special meals. February also includes National Lamb Month and National Heart Month, offering additional promotional angles.
With spring approaching, now is an ideal time to evaluate inventory planning and marketing strategies. Consistent email marketing and social media engagement remain essential for maintaining momentum.
The insights shared during Chop Local’s office hours are designed to help vendors grow with intention and clarity. By prioritizing customer retention, optimizing order strategies, and implementing effective marketing practices, vendors can strengthen their businesses in 2026 and beyond. Vendors with questions or looking for deeper support are encouraged to connect one-on-one with the Chop Local team to continue building toward long-term success.
